Your time will be better spent studying God's word than in reading this book.

The author in his introduction uses the 1984 NIV which mistranslates, "except for fornication," as except for marital unfaithfulness, which sets the tone of the book promoting divorce and remarriage for adultery and every other cause. There are many other more faithful translations Mr. Hook could have chosen for his introduction, but no, he chose the 1984 NIV. He also make the error of using the protection given by Moses for a woman captured in war as another cause for divorce and remarriage. If her captor did not properly provide for her, under Moses protective laws for slaves, she would be given her freedom. Such a concubine "marriage" is not a covenant one-flesh marriage for life where both the man and bride consent and make vows one to another before God. A captive slave had no rights to refuse a concubine marriage to her captor. Yet the author uses Moses' law for captive slaves as more reasons to divorce out of a marriage. There are so many doors to escape a troubled marriage. A survey revealed that after five years, those who considered divorce, were glad that they stayed together. This book is a receipt for divorce and remarriage for a myriad of causes. 1 Cor. 7:39 "The wife is bound by the law as long as her husband liveth; but if her husband be dead, she is at liberty to be married to whom she will; only in the Lord."

The introduction of this book starts like this…”I think we can all agree that that God wants His people to keep their marriage vows and not be separated by anything other than the death of a spouse… BUT…”
This author believes marriage is God’s idea, intention and what he believes should be…
Compare this to what the Lord says:
Mark 10:6 But from the beginning of the creation God made them male and female. 7 For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and cleave to his wife;8 And they twain shall be one flesh: so then they are no more twain, but one flesh. 9 What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.
This the Lord addressing the “clergy” of His time. These men believed in BOTH divorce and remarriage.
Now let’s compare…this author says “But” to divorce and remarry, and the Lord Jesus Christ says, “But” marriage is as it was from the beginning.
Is marriage God’s intention, or is marriage God’s law? If it is God’s law, was this law established before the fall of man and the institution of divorce, or was this law before the fall of man and a perfect example of the Gospel? You decide…
I reject this book simply on the author's introduction, and so should you. Read the word of God and believe what the Holy Spirit tells you about God's definition of marriage, and not what you want to believe about marriage.

Even with a price of FREE, I don't recommend this book.......

I downloaded this and just did a quick scan of the contents. The only thing that come to my mind was, "Oh my. Toto, we are not in Kansas anymore." The author and I agree on virtually nothing. I found most of his comments under-supported. He failed to address many counter-arguments that many, including me, have become comfortable in believing. He takes "adultery" and "abandonment" as acceptable norms even though many, including me, believe the Bible teaches the permanence of marriage with no exceptions. He makes no mention of what the earliest church fathers thought about the topic, in addition to what Jesus and Paul taught on the subject matter. This book gives a great perspective from those who use grace to actually justify sin. The author and I disagree on almost every point he wanted to make in this writing.If you decide to read this book, be sure to seek other authors who have a much different teaching on the matter of divorce and remarriage. My prayer after reading this is, "Dear Lord, please guide us all to your truth. Where minds disagree, please steer us to what you want us all to understand about your will regarding marriage, divorce, and remarriage." AMEN.
